Emma Levitz

Emma Levitz is a stone carver and visual artist based in Cookeville, Tennessee. She grew up in Vermont and received her BFA in sculpture from Massachusetts College of Art and Design in 2016.

Levitz began carving stone at a residency program at Salem Art Works in 2015. She quickly fell in love, and after moving to rural Tennessee with a group of artists following college graduation, she made carving stone her sole focus.

In 2018, Levitz opened her studio Little Mountain Stoneworks named after a small mountain peak near her home in the Upper Cumberland region of Tennessee. She recycles/upcycles locally-sourced natural stones, mainly limestone and marble, creating carvings from slabs and blocks that are too small or irregular to be used for architectural & industrial purposes. For this reason, some types of stone may only be available in limited quantities.

Levitz's sculptural work explores aspects of psychology, disorders, dreams, and memory, often through altered forms of the human body.
She also creates functional objects and pieces for the home that are often inspired by fossils and other organic forms in nature.
