Our current exhibit, "Edible Dramas: Indulgent Art to Expose the Human Appetite," offers narratives and reflections on human behavior, featuring vivid “portraits” of everything from produce to large-scale subversive jelly donuts. With an underlying anthropomorphic tone, Stewart-Sanabria’s works include jarred cherries swimming in a pool of artificial coloring, crystallized candy competing with baked goods of mysterious coloration, and fruits acting out ancient fertility rites. Occurring in dramatically lit stage settings, these works are intended to inspire reflection on multiple human appetites, and challenge a deeper understanding of them.
Each week our newsletter will spotlight one piece from the current exhibit to provide a more in-depth look at
Denise Stewart-Sanabria's work.
