Ooze 1
Oil on Linen
48 x 72 in
$5,000 or $500 per month with Art Money! "Ooze 1" by Denise Stewart-Sanabria is part of Donuts Behaving Badly, a subseries within the artist's widely successful ongoing series Edible Dramas. This group of large-scale oil-on-canvas paintings features hyper-realist renderings of small-batch donuts from a local bakery in Chattanooga, TN. Sanabria creates a dramatic stage for the pastries posing them in intense, high-contrast lighting on a reflective tile surface against a deep black background. "Ooze 1" features a single flaky pastry next to a trail of crumbs and sticky globs of lemon filling. As with the rest of the Edible Dramas series, Sanabria anthropomorphizes the donuts as a light-hearted reflection of human indulgence. Initially inspired by William Hogarth's series, The Rake's Progress, Sanabria poses these decadent sweets as an amusing take on a debaucherous night on the town dramatized on several darkly-lit "stages."
